Get off the HSE Waiting List

With Cross Border Irish Health

Cross Border Irish Health, dedicated to getting Irish patents off the HSE waiting list since 2016.

Health Care Built Around You.

Are you ready to get off the HSE waiting list?

Under HSE rules and EU law you can get off your waiting list by having your procedure done in another EU country.

However finding quality healthcare in another EU country could be more complicated and stressful than it sounds.

At Cross Border Irish health we think your only job should be to get treated and recover.

That is why we take care of all the red tape, language issues, translations, flights and treatments so you don’t have too.

Since January 2020 the UK and Northern Ireland are no longer part of the EU.

How to get off the HSE Waiting List

Your route off the HSE waiting list depends on the type of procedure you need.

The HSE have different procedures for inpatient and daycase treatments.

The HSE recommend that due to the costs, people who need inpatient treatment, get pre-approval by the HSE.
Under EU law it is not a requirement for inpatients to get pre-approval.

Daycase patients do not need pre-approval.

Inpatient Treatment

There are five measures that inpatients need to take to get off the HSE waiting list.

Once you have told us what your medical need is, we will use this information to find the correct English-speaking consultant in Barcelona and negotiate a price for your procedure that doesn’t exceed HSE pricing guidelines.

As per HSE rules, once you are satisfied with the consultant and cost, you will need to come to Barcelona for a pre-assessment consultation with your English-speaking consultant.

You will pay a deposit of €1000 for the pre-assessment which is used to cover the initial consultation and any fees needed for scan and X-rays.
The deposit will deduced from the overall cost of your procedure.

When you come to Barcealona for your pre-assesment we will meet you at the airport and take you to the hospital to see your English-speaking consultant.
After the consultation we will take you to your hotel or back to the airport

After you return to Ireland we will prepare and send all the documents the HSE need for prior authorisation including, your referral letter or waiting list letter from your hospital, the report from your consultant in Barcelona and proof you travelled for the consultation.

The HSE usually takes between 3 to 4 weeks to issue prior authorisation.

Once the HSE have issued your prior authorisation letter, you have pay for the procedure

Again HSE rules are clear, you have to pay for the procedure in advance.

The HSE will reimburse the cost after the procedure. You can use the prior authorisation letter to get credit if you need it.

We recommend using your local credit union because they are experts in funding the Cross Border treatments.

Once we agreed the dates for your procedure will book your flight and hotel.

When you arrive we will meet you at the airport, and transport you to the hospital for your procedure.
Of course, we won’t be with you during the procedure, but we will check in as soon as you are out.

When you are ready to go home, we will take you to the airport and see you safely on your flight back to Ireland.

When you are back in Ireland, we will prepare and translate all the documents your GP needs for your medical records and send them in.

We will also send the HSE everything they need for reimbursement.

It takes the HSE between three and four months to issue the reimbursement.

Daycase Treatment

There are four measures that daycase patients need to take to get off the HSE waiting list.

Once you have told us what your medical need is, we will use this information to find the correct English-speaking consultant in Barcelona and negotiate a price for your procedure that doesn’t exceed HSE pricing guidelines.

When you agree to the price of the procedure, pay the full amount in advance.
